Apsara dance is one of the highest art forms in Cambodia is classified by UNESCO as one of the great intangible cultural assets of the world. The art was almost wiped out during the Khmer Rouge regime as the leaders sought to destroy all forms of art and culture.
A small band of dancers defied death and managed to survive the regime, and they rekindled the art soon after the collapse of the regime.
At Classical Siemreap Apsara Dancing and when you will get patient and helpful instructors that will guide you through the intricate hand movements and when you finish – you will be able to perform a traditional Khmer dance.
Apsara are figures of Hindu mythology and the spirits of the clouds and waters.
They are beautiful dancing girls who were the wives of Ghandarvas, the court servants to Indra – King of the demi-gods. The Apsaras are a figure of beauty, charm and grace that would dance in the celestial palaces; and are depicted on many temple wall but particularly Chau Say Trevoda.
Not only will you gain a new found appreciation for this high form of art, but you will also be able to enjoy the company of a local master in a beautiful local setting.
