Do you have a fascination with birds?
Sam Veasna Centre for Wild Life Conservation has a goal to provide alternative, sustainable livelihoods from ecotourism for local communities.
In return for the income and employment received by this program, the local community are asked to sign a “No Hunting and Land Use Agreement”; which is monitored by Ministries of Environment and Forestry Patrol Teams advised by WCS.
We are a Non-Profit Organization and any profits received is invested back into local communities promoting good environmental stewardship.
By choosing to see Cambodia’s spectacular wild life – you are giving local Communities the choice of an alternative way of living.
Who Was Sam Veasna?
Sam Veasna was a pioneering Cambodian Naturalist and was surveying the Northern Plains looking for the now extinct Kouprey. He was responsible for discovering and cataloging many of the most important sites for conservation in Northern Cambodia.
Sam Veasna died in 1999 at the age of 33 from Malaria – the centre was set up in his memory to continue promoting conservation throughout Cambodia.
The Centre offers a number of bird watching experiences which include:
- Siem Reap Half Day Birding
- Temple and Birds One Day Tour
- Ton Sap Water Birds and Floating Village Adventure
- Wild Cambodia
- Super Tour EventsThe Sam Veasna Centre currently has 8 English speaking Guides, who are expert in finding Cambodia’s special birds and highly knowledgeable about these sites. Five of them are also Temple Guides and we are always training new recruits through our Guide Training Program.
We believe that it is necessary to provide alternative livelihoods in order to achieve sustainable conservation:
