The Roulos Group

These temple could have a much older history that what we think.

The Roulos Group are some of the oldest temples that you will see in Cambodia and date back to at least the 9th century. These monuments are what remains of “Hariharalaya”, which was the first capital of the Khmer empire and it is thought that an existing settlement was already on the site before these temples were built.

After being there for 300 hundred years Hariharalaya was relocated to Angkor Thom Archaeology Park in the 12th century, which marked the dominance of the Khmer civilization and the same time that Angkor Wat was built.

The Roulos Group These temples have become known as The Roluos Group, due to their proximity to today’s bustling town of Roluos – and the place where the former grand capital of Hariharalaya once stood.

Not in an enclosed area like Angkor Thom Archaeology Park, The Roulos Group consists of 4 structures found in different locations. To get to these temples you will need to go through small communities and here you will have the chance to see rural aspect of Cambodian life.

They are located approximately 10 – 15 kilometers (6 – 10 miles) from the town of Siem Reap and offer a unique experience…where you can have a different aspect apart from the regular tourist route.

Admission to The Roluos Group is included with your regular Temple Tickets.
